Getting started without web login fields

Ledger Live pairs with your Ledger hardware. Instead of entering passwords here, connect your device and approve operations directly on the device screen. This reduces the attack surface and keeps private keys offline.

Notice: This interface intentionally omits any password or numeric input fields. Authentication steps occur on the physical Ledger device.

Step one

Open Ledger Live and choose "Connect device". Confirm the device model and firmware on the device screen.

Step two

Follow on-screen instructions in Ledger Live. Approve any transaction or operation on the hardware device only.

Step three

To restore or recover, use the device's recovery flow — do not type your recovery phrase into the computer.

Why no password or PIN field on this page?

Ledger's security model places private keys on the hardware device. PIN entry and confirmations happen on-device; web or desktop applications like Ledger Live only orchestrate and present information. This approach ensures that even if your computer is compromised, the secret material remains on the hardware device.

Tips for safe usage

Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger domain. Verify firmware updates via the official app and confirm every detail on the device screen before approving. Use a secure, offline backup for your recovery phrase (preferably a metal backup), and never share your recovery phrase with anyone.
